A floating storage regulatory unit (FSRU) is an essential part of the transportation of LNG through oceanic channels. LNG is a major component. FSRU can also be called a specific kind of LNG ship.

Since LNG is sustainable and very environmentally friendly as a fuel part, it’s not so easy to transport it. A small deterioration could lead to the loss of valuable lives and fuel, not least the further depletion of the oceanic environment.

The LNG fuel delivered to the intended destination in semi-cooled slushy condition of -160 / up to its initial gaseous status needs to be heated. This reheating must be done prior to the pumping of the gas into the storage systems. The whole process of freezing and reheating the petrol, not to mention time-consuming, is incredibly costly. A floating storage unit with a reliquefaction plant is the resulting solution to this time consuming operation.

Key features of the FSRU

• This is India’s first FSRU-based LNG terminal and the first year around a Maharashtra LNG terminal.
• The Höegh Giant, constructed in 2017, has 170 000 m3 storage space and an installed regasification capacity of 750 million ft3/d (equivalent to approximately 6 million tpy). For a 10-year stretch, H-Energy chartered the FSRU.
• The 56 km long Jaigarh-Dabhol natural gas pipeline linking the LNG terminal into the domestic natural gas grid will be delivered by Höegh Giant, regasified LNG.
• The facility will also supply LNG via onshore truck loading installations and will also be able to reload LNG for bunkering services on smaller LNG vessels.
• In addition, H-Energy plans to create a limited LNG sector through the FSRU for smaller vessels and the refueling of LNG.
